I probably should've shared my yogurt bone secret long before this, but I never took a picture. So oh well.
You know those thick marrow bones you buy for your dog? Refill them with non-fat plain yogurt (the generic kind at the grocery store) and freeze.
You can add peanut butter or kibble into the mixture, but they are pretty popular just plain. My dog gets a one daily during the summer months; less over the winter. When I give him one in the evening, usually around 8:00, it's the signal that he is to sit quietly and there will be no more playing tonight. It takes him about 10 minutes to get all the yogurt out. For some reason it settles him down.
You can get marrow bones from your locally-owned pet store, but they are expensive there. About $16 for a bag of them. I go to an international supermarket and get a package of 6 for $2.80. Look for bones that are thick-walled so they can be refilled many times. The thinner bones will splinter.
It's the dog's favorite treat to get. And it happens to be the cheapest. By far. Win-win.
